As winter in Randolph begins, the township road crew is gearing up for their winter duties. This time of year removal of snow from township roadways is a priority.

This year we will be using salt only with the use of some cinders when the temperature drops below the optimum temperature for salt only to adequately do the job. Usually, salt is spread on the roads at the start of a storm. Then when snow starts to accumulate, the roads are plowed with one single pass in each direction. After the initial plowing, the plow will be returning and may block your driveway with additional snow. It is important not to throw snow into the street when shoveling driveways or mailboxes.

In our attempt to remove snow from the roads, plowed snow often damages mailboxes. Wet, heavy snow increases the chance for damage; make sure your mailbox is secured tightly on a sturdy post. Residents are reminded that damage occurring from plowed snow is the property owner’s responsibility. The township road crew makes every effort to avoid causing damage to mailboxes. The Township is not responsible for removing snow on private roads. Many times residents will call to report their road has not been plowed. The following Roads are serviced by Randolph Township:

Schroeder, Luli, Shaffer, Aberagg, Swartz, Belding, Alexander, Eberly, Trump, Bassett, Wilkes, Taylor, Fairgrounds, Stepping Stone Trail, Abbey Lane, Bryar Court, Horning, Thomas, Unger, Matti, Pamer, Dibble, Maxwell, German Church.

This summer Randolph Township completed some major road improvements.

Residents of the Unger (click here to see videos...preparation or completed) and Belding Roads (click here to see a video) found plenty of roadwork activity in their neighborhood this year. Although we realize this is an inconvenience during the work stages, we know that the end result will be a safer roadway. Your patience and courtesy are appreciated during the construction and paving process. Please remember that our road workers safety is always of concern as well as that of the traveling public.

Other paving projects completed this summer was the chip and sealing of approximately 7.75 miles in total (click here to see a video). These roads included: Aberagg, Horning, Wilkes, Matti, Pamer, Thomas, Dibble, Maxwell, and German Church. As reminder to residents of those areas that were chip and sealed. The roadways often appear to be very rough at the start, but traffic use "sets" the surface and it will result in a roadway that, although not as smooth as asphalt paved roadways, this process provides a safe and viable way for us to maintain township roads.

As always, line striping will take place during the summer months. Drivers are reminded to please observe the direction and speed requirements during this process. It will result in a better striping project as well as decreasing the chance of paint splatter on your vehicle.

All travelers on the township roads, please remember that when you see a missing road sign or find a dangerous situation on any township roadway, you are asked to contact the township road department as soon as possible. Should you leave a message after hours, please remember to include your name and contact information so we can confirm the location and the needed repair.

We also ask that residents do not place leaves, brush or other yard debris in the ditches. This will restrict drainage from township roads. Please try to keep personal property far enough off the road right of way to ensure the township’s ability to maintain ditches and ensure everyone's safety.

The extent of work done on the roads throughout the township can range from widening, new drain work, resurfacing, correcting or replacing ditch lines, line striping and so forth. Repairing potholes that have developed is an ongoing project throughout the township. Spring through the fall months will find many of the roads repaired throughout the township. You may experience some delays in travel as roadways are resurfaced or repaired.

Maintaining the road system is a multifaceted task. Other projects that are involved in the broad spectrum of work done by the Randolph Township Road Department includes brush cutting, sign replacement and installation, vehicle maintenance, mowing, maintenance and funeral internments in the cemeteries, township complex projects and upkeep of the existing park areas.
