Millville Cemetery...Founded in 1822

The Board of Trustees operates and maintains the Millville Cemetery on Millville Avenue (SR 129) just northeast of the Columbus Drive intersection. The Cemetery began operation in 1822 and came under Township jurisdiction in the early 1900’s. Generally, the Cemetery averages 60 to 90 burials per year.

In 2005 the Township purchased additional acreage to extend the active use of the cemetery for another 40 years. The Board of Trustees updated the Cemetery rules and fees in March 2008. Grave sites may be purchased in accordance with the following: Hanover Township residents $580.00; non residents $845.00. Veteran’s markers have a flat rate of $100.00 for the foundation and installation. Please verify costs with Cemetery officials.

A great deal effort is spent maintaining the cemetery grounds. In order to maintain the beauty and character of the cemetery, the Township has posted cemetery rules and regulations (regarding marking and decorating gravesites) on the North end of the cemetery building. If you haven’t driven through the cemetery for a while, feel free to do so. The cemetery continues to evolve and add additional burial grounds, streets and curbing. Say hello to our Cemetery Caretaker while you’re there, Jon Goldsberry. You may call the Cemetery Office at 868-3681 with your inquiries or questions can be fielded by the Township Administrator at 896-9059.

There are also two other cemeteries in Hanover Township. Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery on Reily-Millville Road and the Samuels Lutheran Cemetery on Minton Road, both of which were established in 1815. These cemeteries are maintained by the Hanover Township and have been marked by new signs. These cemeteries have been inactive for many years.
